Chuseok is Korea’s trip, not yours.
A grave, a living room that is too small, a train that already belongs to a family. You can hide in one village and eat like a guest, or you can try to raid the peninsula while a country goes home. Only one of those is manners.
A reunion, not a festival product
First-timers treat Chuseok like Golden Week with more banchan. The calendar pressure is the same and not the same. Japan’s first week of May is a civic cluster you can hide inside. Korea’s harvest week is a population visiting its dead. Palaces may stay open. The grandmother is not at Gwangjang. She is on a highway.
If families are moving, the week is their weather. Slack, not a raid.

What is there to sit with in Chuseok?
A family harvest week, not a festival a guest attends. Cities thin toward hometowns. The reserved seat you thought you would wing is already a family. Hide in one neighborhood, or go with them. Do not wing Busan.
When is Chuseok 2026?
VISITKOREA’s 2026 public-holiday table lists Chuseok as 24–26 September 2026 (lunar 15 August). Seollal is listed as 16–18 February 2026. That is their 2026 cluster, not a 2027 promise. Reconfirm the year you fly on VISITKOREA public holidays.
Should a first-timer fly into Chuseok?
Only if you can treat the holiday as Korea’s trip, not yours. Book the long steel early, or pick one Seoul village and refuse the raid. This is not the week to wing Jeju, a same-day Gyeongju map, or a KORAIL PASS you have not run.
Do trains and hotels jump?
They thicken. Millions go home. We will not invent a hotel nightly, a multiplier, or a KTX won. Official visitor-pass KRW: Korea transit. Singles live on Korail.
Chuseok or Seollal?
Same grammar, different season. Harvest in autumn. Lunar new year in winter. Both empty capitals toward hometowns. Both are someone else’s reunion. The civic year: Korea events.
