Korea dates with intention. People look good on purpose. They also have jobs, families, and a low patience for tourists who treat the city like a dating show set.

Patterns, not rules for 51 million people
- Effort shows. Clean shoes, a plan, a reservation. “Whatever you want” is not chill. It is unpaid labor.
- KakaoTalk is the room. International apps are the hallway.
- Group settings and introductions still do a lot of the work. Cold approaching in a palace courtyard is a great way to meet security, not a partner.
Pay attention. Split or cover with grace. Leave when it is a no. That is the whole sophisticated strategy.

- K-drama scripts performed on a real person.
- Fetish talk, plastic-surgery commentary, or “Korean girls are…”
- Pressure to drink. Plenty of people date sober. Join them or go home.
