Vietnam · the bag
The alley is already full of someone.
A grandmother, a stove, a scooter that is also a family. Your hard-shell is not a personality. Pack a finishable day. Then the country can still have a sidewalk.
Hands free is manners
Japan writes it as a tourism-agency sentence. Vietnam lives it as a plastic stool you cannot sit on because a wheel is in the way. Hanoi alleys do not pause. HCMC heat does not pause. Ha Long is a boat with a job — not a place to store a second life.
If a stranger has to become architecture for you, you packed wrong.

Can I roll a large suitcase through Hanoi?
You can. You should not. Alleys are rooms. Scooters are a weather system. If a stranger has to flatten themselves for your bag, you packed wrong. Hanoi is broth you walk, not a luggage test.
HCMC the same?
Heat plus scooters plus a sidewalk that is also a kitchen. HCMC will forgive a landing bag. A second city as a rolling raid will not.
Hoi An with a hard-shell?
The lantern street is walking. Vans exist. Overnight in the town, or skip. Hoi An. Da Nang is a door, not a locker strategy — utility airport.
Forward the bag north to south?
If the map already has two bases, send or fly the weight. The third overnight bus with a suitcase is how you remember a neck. Pay for distance once. We will not invent a courier dong.
How to take it
Lift it, or leave it
Pack a finishable day
One bag. Medicine you already know. First days start with water, not a second suitcase.
Do not rent a bike you cannot already ride
A motorbike plus a rolling bag is how you join the wrong statistic. Walk the block. Ride when the city is weather.
Two bases: pay for distance once
Air or one long sit. Not three sleepers with a hard-shell. Distance is the itinerary.
