Taiwan · a lane

Jiufen is a sitting, not a checklist.

Tea, stairs, a shop that still has a person in it. You can raid it from Taipei as a video, or you can sit until the lane has a face. One sitting. Then the bus home. The Pass is steel. This is not steel.

A memory, not a stamp

The brochure sells a lantern and a spiral. The lane sells a person who still has to work tomorrow. Heat does not clock out. You are a guest on someone else’s stairs. Voices down when the shop is also a front door.

If the week is already thin, skip. That is breakfast money, not cynicism.

Decide

Decide

Do I need a THSR Pass for Jiufen?

No. Jiufen is not high-speed rail. Do not burn a Pass day on a bus. Taipei sidewalks are EasyCard. Unlimited steel is a different product — skip the Pass if the week is already a basin.

Same day as a night market?

Usually no. Stairs, tea, a lane that is also a shop. Then a stall pilgrimage is how you remember sugar and forget the tea. One market as a sitting. Home.

With a suitcase?

Leave it in Taipei. A lunch with a rolling bag on those stairs is a spreadsheet. Bags. Overnight in Jiufen only if the week already named that bed.

Skip it?

Yes, if Taipei walk-ups and one market already finished the week. Jiufen is a memory with a view. It is not a stamp that proves you did Taiwan. First days.

How to take it

One sitting. Then home.

  1. Leave the suitcase

Taipei bed, or skip. Hands free is manners.

  2. Tea before the nineteenth shop

Sit. The spiral will not remember you. A family of four leaving is your clock.

  3. MRT like a person with a last train

Tap in. Tomorrow’s breakfast is Tainan if the south is real — not another mountain.
